Public shelters in Roma
People often ask us where we get our dogs from. Some are strays and some are from public shelters. We have rescued Dottie, Matty, Java, Teddy, Mikey, Cookie, Sally, and Penny from this public shelter, and thank god we did as some of those would not have made it there this winter.
Even now the temperature is -8, they're starving and just rely on these bones now and then. Imagine the personalities who fight over these bones and not all will make it. Some dogs are too fearful to go inside so they freeze outside and not every dog is brave enough to go for the food. It's a survival of the fittest.
There's only a stone floor to curl up on, no beds, no nothing. Living conditions are horrendous and besides barely any food, there are barely any water bowls.
We don't have funds to have a shelter and start quickly taking the old and vulnerable out. We don't have the resources to rent a house and put some there. It seems all we can do is know about it and plan for different in the future where we can make a difference. We've done it before and, sadly, we can't do it now. The one thing we can do is ask for donations of food and bowls and have them delivered there. If you can donate to the dogs in this truly awful public shelter then please do.
Together we can look towards saving some of these lives in the future and for now we can get some food and water bowls in there.
Thank you
