Nori, now Tara
Nori was found in the Romanian sanctuary yard, thin, watchful, no name yet. A new baby arrived off the Lucky Bus today. Nori was, Tara is starting a wonderful life.
Every dog on this page made the journey from Romania to a home in the UK. This is what that looks like.
Each pair shows the same dog: Romania on one side, a UK home on the other. Weeks or months apart. Photos from our own archive, as they happened.

First photographed at the sanctuary in Crivatu, sharing a kennel with three larger dogs. Now spends his afternoons in a bowtie, on his own patch of grass, looking smug.
First night in foster: stuffed elephant tucked under one paw, a soft bed, the unfamiliar sound of UK rain on the window. Now Mabel runs free in a Lancashire field most mornings.
Mura came off the Lucky Bus in March. Settled fast, quicker than we expected. Looking for her forever home now, but you wouldn't know she was a rescue if we didn't tell you.
Yasmine spent her first years where many do, behind wire, in a Romanian shelter. The Lucky Bus brought her over. A UK family had been waiting for a dog exactly like her since November.
Shylah's took longer than most. Six months at the sanctuary before she let any human near her. The first time she chose to lie down beside someone was in her foster home, three weeks after she landed.
Sidonia arrived shy, wary of every hand. We let her decide when to come closer. She did, eventually, and then quickly, and now she sleeps stretched along the back of the sofa like she's lived there forever.
