Other ways to give

There are more ways to help than the donate button.

Some people leave a gift in their will. Some claim Gift Aid from HMRC at no cost to themselves. Some give through their employer. Every route reaches the same dogs.

Legacy gift

Leave a gift in your will.

A gift in your will helps save more dogs and give them a healthy future and a loving new home. After your family is taken care of, even a small share of what's left can keep a sanctuary dog warm and fed for years. It is a very special gift, so your love of dogs lives on.

The sanctuary at Crivatu costs more than £5,000 a month to run. Food for fifty dogs, vet bills, vaccines, repairs, daily care from Catalin and the team. We have to find it every month, no exceptions.

The full guide covers what your gift makes possible, the three ways to leave a gift, the simple steps to writing your will, and our Legacy Promise to you and your family.

Gift Aid

Add 25 % to every pound, at no cost to you.

If you pay UK Income Tax or Capital Gains Tax, HMRC adds 25 p for every £1 you give. It costs you nothing. Tick a box once and we claim the rest.

How it works in three steps

  1. You pay UK tax. Income Tax or Capital Gains Tax in the current tax year, at least as much as the Gift Aid we'll claim across all the charities you support that year.
  2. You make a Gift Aid declaration.Tick the Gift Aid box on Zeffy when you donate, or fill in the short declaration form on the right. One declaration covers every donation you make to us, past four years and into the future, until you tell us to stop.
  3. We claim 25 p per £1 from HMRC.Every £100 you give becomes £125 in our bank. Every £10 a month becomes £12.50 a month. We don't pay anything to claim it.

If you're a higher-rate taxpayer

If you pay tax at the higher (40 %) or additional (45 %) rate, you can claim back the difference between the rate you pay and the basic rate on your donations. You can do this through your Self-Assessment return, or by asking HMRC to amend your tax code. That's an extra 20 p (or 25 p) back to you, on every £1 you've given.

Stopping or updating your declaration

Email us at [email protected] if you no longer pay enough tax to cover the Gift Aid we claim, or if your name or home address changes. We'll stop claiming and update our records the same day.

Why you have to be a UK taxpayer Gift Aid is HMRC giving back the basic-rate tax you've already paid on your donation. If you haven't paid enough tax to cover what we'd claim, HMRC asks you to make up the difference, not us. That's the only reason we ask.
Corporate partnerships

Bring your company in.

Four routes that work

01

Charity of the Year

Pick Penny's Ark as your year's charity. We come and tell the story to your team. Quarterly impact reports. Named on the site, named in our newsletter. Best for companies with 30 to 500 staff.

02

Payroll Giving (Give As You Earn)

Employees donate from their pay before tax. £10 to us costs a basic-rate taxpayer £8; a higher-rate taxpayer pays £6. We work with the major payroll-giving providers. Ask your HR team.

03

Matched giving

Your company matches what your team raises or donates, pound for pound, up to a cap you set. Doubles a fundraiser's impact and gets the whole team involved without extra effort from us.

04

Easy Fundraising

4,000+ retailers donate a small percentage when your team shop online via Easy Fundraising. We're already registered. Search “Penny's Ark” and add us as your cause. Costs nothing extra.

Or something custom

Auction prize donations for the Pennies Auction. Sponsored events. A team day at the sanctuary. A single donation from a year-end profit pot. A raffle prize from your company shop. We're flexible. What's easy on your side is usually fine on ours.

Companies we'd especially like to talk to: pet retailers, vet practices, groomers, dog-food brands, Merseyside-local businesses, anyone who'd benefit from a story of where the work actually goes.
